The cloth di aper is an all-in-one diaper, i.e. a complete diaper to which nothing more needs to be added. Thus, in terms of system, it most closely resembles the disposable diaper.

The bumGenius Elemental is a one-size diaper, which means that it grows with the child. It can be adjusted in waist height with the help of snaps. The tummy width is also adjusted with snaps. The cloth diaper has single leg cuffs with sewn-in elastic and another elastic at the back.

The manufacturer states that it fits between 4 kg and 16 kg. So for large newborns, this diaper might already fit.

With a price starting from 27,00€ it belongs rather to the high-priced diapers. It should also be remembered that the entire diaper must always be washed, which is why a correspondingly large number of diapers are needed.

Material of the cloth diaper

The wetness repellent outer layer of the diaper is coated with polyurethane (PUL). This layer prevents urine or stool from leaking out of the diaper. Inside, the bumGenius Elemental is sewn with two cotton absorbent pads on the stomach and back. The cotton is very fine and soft. Theoretically, additional soaker pads can be added over, as well as between or under the sewn-in soaker pads.

In test

We have now tested the diaper several times. From the waist height fit the cloth diaper well in the largest setting, the abdominal width could be adjusted to fit my son very well. Even after wearing it for a long time, there were only very slight marks on the legs. The leg cuffs held tight very well, even when the soaker was already soaked. The absorbency of the diaper was good. However, I would use it for frequent peeers or children who pee a lot in gushes, only with additional absorbent pad, because otherwise it must be changed very often or it leaks accordingly.

Washing/drying

In terms of washing, the bumGenius Elemental is simple. It could go in the washing machine as it was. Drying it took about two days on the line in the cold laundry room in the winter. What was good here was that the soaker pads are not fully sewn, so the pad could dry from two sides, which sped up the process.

Conclusion on the bumGenius Elemental

The cloth diaper convinced me. I found it great that the soaker liner is not sewn at the leg cuffs, so that the clothes could not draw wetness. The fit was very good with my son, there were almost no marks. The price of the bumGenius is not very cheap. It still convinced me, so I would pay the price!
