Anavy panty diaper
Some time ago, in my article Petit Lulu Panty Diaper [review], I already introduced the panty diaper from Petit Lulu in the newborn size. Today I would like to introduce here another pant diaper for newborns. This time from the Czech manufacturer Anavy.
About the manufacturer Anavy
Just like Petit Lulu, Anavy is also a Czech manufacturer of cloth diapers. As I can read on the website www.anavy.cz, Anavy offers a variety of overpants, pads and panty diapers, as well as nursing pads and products for menstrual hygiene.
By the way, it should be mentioned that I have also written an article on this topic entitled Alternative Monatshygiene.
When the owner of Anavy, Ivana Filipovičová, had her first child, she started sewing her own cloth diapers. The diapers were refined and optimized more and more until finally today's Anavy diapers were created. Since then, Anavy has grown significantly and the diapers are also sold in many German (online) stores.
Description of the panty diaper
As the name suggests, this is a pant diaper. It is therefore fully absorbent and requires an overpant made of PUL or wool for wetness protection. Slip overpants are often used in combination with these diapers, but some Velcro or snap overpants are also suitable.
The diaper is available in three different sizes. According to the manufacturer, the Newborn size should fit from 2-6kg, the One-Size from 3.5-15kg and finally the XL size from 7-18kg. The One-Size should therefore already be suitable for most newborns. In the test, however, I had the diaper in the newborn size.
The diaper can be purchased at Fratzhosen and costs there 18,50€ (Newborn). The next sizes are slightly more expensive. Thus, it is in the average range of pant diapers for newborns.
For the closure, you can choose between snaps and Velcro (in Newborn, there is only the snap variant). Here there are two rows of snaps on which the diaper can be closed. This allows it to grow a little in height. In the middle, it has a "navel nap". When this is closed, the area from the navel should remain free and thus dry.
At the legs, the diaper is slightly gathered, as well as at the back. This is to provide a better fit and prevent leakage. Inside, a liner is buttoned in at the back end, which is double layered. This is to ensure great absorbency. If necessary, this insert can also be omitted.
The Anavy pant diaper, like many other pant diapers, is covered on the outside with jersey fabric, which provides some elasticity. This is 95% cotton and 5% spandex. The rest of the diaper is 80% cotton and 20% polyester. Cotton is often used as an absorbent material because it absorbs well and quickly and retains wetness well.
The button-in liner is 80% bamboo viscose and 20% polyester. Bamboo viscose is also popularly used as absorbent material because it has similar properties to cotton. You can find more information about the material properties in my article Little material science - cloth diapers.
In the test
We used the test diaper mainly at night. In the beginning, I changed my daughter without the insert because the absorbency was sufficient without it. As a result, the diaper package was significantly smaller. Without the insert, I was able to use the diaper well during the day and the absorbency was good enough for the duration of 3-4 hours when we were out and about.
As overpants I have preferred slip overpants. Here, for example, the overpants from disana (62/68), the PUL slip overpants from hu-da (S) or the slip overpants from Maleja (S) were suitable. But also other overpants like the Wizly overpants from Windelzauberland we could use in combination.
Even after prolonged wear, the diaper left virtually no marks. The cuffs are really very softly processed here. It fit well on the legs, stomach and back. However, it did not fit quite as long and became too small when my daughter weighed about 5kg. With her, I could have used the one-size diaper from the beginning.
Washing and drying the diaper
According to the manufacturer, the diaper can be washed at 60 degrees. In the dryer, it can be dried on gentle setting. A detergent without enzymes should be used, because the bamboo viscose is somewhat susceptible to washing.
We had no problems during washing. It was also practical during washing and especially during drying that the interlining can be unbuttoned. This made the drying time much shorter. Even after repeated washing, the diaper is still pleasantly soft.
Conclusion on the pant diaper from Anavy
Overall, it can be summarized that the pant diaper from Anavy is a highly absorbent diaper that can be used well at night. During the day, I would use it without a liner so it doesn't bulk up so much. Allerdinngs I would prefer to buy the one-size diapers, because they are much longer usable and already fit many newborns.
