Kenhuru Sling Skirt Plum
After I could not test anything new for a long time due to my ankle injury, a test sling was finally allowed to visit us again. The still very new sling manufacturer Kenhuru Sling sends a few sling in 6 different countries around the world for testing. So I had the pleasure to try out one of these slings.
Overview of the sling- Manufacturer: Kenhuru Sling
- Model: Rok Plum
- Color: dark blue / purple
- Size: 5 (registered much longer)
- Material: 17% merino wool, 83% combed cotton
- weight per unit area: approx. 280g/m²
Information about the cloth and first impression
The Polish manufacturer Kenhuru Sling exists, as I wrote above, only since this year. The company was founded by Daria Lampert. He has meanwhile released the sling model Rok in different colors. Slings from Kenhuru Sling can be purchased as a draw through their Facebook page. Who is interested in the sling, must apply for it quasi and gets a message when the sling can be bought. Since there are always only a few copies available, the demand for popular scarves and manufacturers is quite high, despite increased prices.
The Rok Plum model has not yet been released, but will be priced with the other scarves. Then a shawl in size 5 will cost about 290€, so the shawls belong to the high-priced category.
My first impression of the shawl was, "Wow, it's soft!" This is certainly related to the fact that the cloth has now been traveling for a few weeks and has already been worn intensively and thus also "entered". In addition, merino wool is a soft, comfortable material in slings. The high basis weight of about 280g / m² is hardly noticeable at first feel.
The motif shows geometric shapes in purple on very dark blue. However, the motif has already been published in other color combinations, as described above. Also special about this cloth are the straight edges, as the cloth ends are usually cut at an angle.
When worn
I tried the sling a lot with demo dolls from my babywearing consultations, but also with my 3-year-old son. Tying was very comfortable due to the soft material. With the small dolls, however, the high surface weight was noticeable, so that relatively much fabric collected in the back of the knees. Here I would prefer a thinner cloth. More experienced hands can tie the cloth but quite already with a newborn. The cloth is, after the many wearing of the testers before me, already become significantly longer. Thus, a size 5 has now become cloth of length 4.80m, which corresponds to the length of a cloth in size 6. Thus, more binding methods are possible, but for me it was a little too long in the wrap cross carry.
I was able to tie the Double Hammock very well with the Kenhuru Sling Rok Plum with my son. It was very comfortable on the shoulders making it comfortable to wear. When it was cold, the wool in the sling warmed very comfortably. At the same time, no heat accumulated in the cloth, so I did not sweat when wearing. Here, the temperature-equalizing property of the wool is noticeable.
Tying the scarf
In the video you can see how I tie the wrap cross sling with the Kenhuru Sling Rok Plum with a demo doll.
Wash
Since this is a test sling, I did not wash it. Since the sling is not pure cotton, but also contains a wool component, the care is a bit more involved. Basically, the wool washing program of the washing machine with wool detergent should not be a problem. However, I personally would always hand wash a wool scarf. If in doubt, please refer to the manufacturer's washing instructions.
Conclusion
The sling is very high quality, which is also reflected in the price. I could not discover any weaving errors or the like. Wearing it was very comfortable for me. It requires due to the thickness, with small babies, however, some experience. The material combination with wool I find very suitable especially for winter. One thing to consider with this sling is that it will get quite a bit longer after being worn more often.
