Soul Slings Meh Dai

I was allowed to test the Meh Dai from Soul Slings, an Indian manufacturer, and also send it on a test trip. I will therefore not only share my experiences in this article, but also include the experiences of the other testers.

Information about the stretcher and the manufacturer

Soul Slings was founded in 2014 as a small home-based business in India. In the early days, only ring slings were manufactured. In the meantime, however, Soul Slings has grown to become the largest manufacturer of baby carriers in India. In addition to various baby carriers, the store also offers slings, ring slings, baby blankets, baby hats, doll carriers and much more. Soul Slings writes on their website that they take great care to meet all international standards for materials and manufacturing. In addition, all production takes place in India. They also write that babywearing can make the world a happier place and follow up by describing some of the benefits of babywearing itself.

The new price of the carrier was 74€, which makes it one of low-priced carriers. To consider here are always incurred shipping costs from India and import fees or customs duties. The Meh Dai is a discontinued model, which is no longer manufactured.

According to the manufacturer, the Meh Dai fits from a weight of 7kg to about 18kg. Consequently, it cannot be used from birth. The carrier belongs to the classic mei tai carriers, as both the waist strap and the straps are for tying. At the same time, the carrier can be classified as wrap conversions, because the straps can be fanned out on the shoulders and also over the baby's bottom.

It is noticeable that the carrier is significantly heavier than other carriers. This is due to the heavy cloth fabric that was sewn.

The belly strap is attached to the side of the back with darts. It has no padding and can be fanned out a bit. This is to allow a wide distribution of weight. The place where the belt is sewn on seems very tight and could possibly press when worn. The bar width is not adjustable, but can be relatively easily pushed smaller by the soft fabric. For smaller babies, it would possibly have to be additionally reduced. For large children, the bar can be increased by fanning the straps over the buttocks.

The straps of the Meh Dai seem very well thought out. They are padded quite a bit in the middle and can be fanned out on both sides. The connection between the back section and the straps seems a bit stiff. The headrest is very large, but can be gathered with two straps and tied in a knot to the loops on the straps. There is no adjustment for the neck width.

When wearing

I had sent the Mei Dai from Soul Slings on a small test trip and will therefore report in the following not only my experiences, but also those of the testers. The testers found the good haptics to be positive, so that the straps could be tightened easily and the knots of the waist belt and straps did not loosen. Due to the heavy weight of the carrier, many also found it very supportive. Combined with the ability to fan out on the shoulders, this was very comfortable to wear. The padding of the straps was described as very comfortable. In some cases, the transitions from the back section to the straps or abdominal belt were described as pressing.

Several testers criticized the lack of adjustment options in the neck area or that it is too wide there, so that adequate head support was sometimes not possible. For example, the rolled headrest would have to be used to support the head. In addition, the straps on the waist belt and straps were too long for some testers, so that they were annoying. On the other hand, this meant that the carrier could also be used by heavier carriers. Partly it was described that the back part is a bit short for large carriers. I can not confirm this with my son. The back section can otherwise be extended with the help of the headrest.

Washing

According to the manufacturer, the carrier can be washed by hand at 30 degrees. Here, no problems occurred with me, as this washing is very gentle on the material.

Conclusion

The carrier was described by the majority of testers as very comfortable, among other things because of the many possibilities that a wrap conversion brings with it. The partially padded straps in particular make the carrier versatile. For very narrow wearers, the long straps could be annoying. In addition, it could be with smaller children that the head must still be supported elsewhere, because there is a lot of room to maneuver here. The good feel and clean workmanship were mentioned positively. Due to the good price-performance ratio, I find it a shame that the carrier was taken out of the range at Soul Slings.
