Karaush Ergo Carrier

In addition to a baby sling, I was also allowed to test a baby carrier from the Russian manufacturer Karaush.

Information about the manufacturer and the carrier

The manufacturer Karaush was founded in 2010. In the meantime, they have developed five different carriers and went to work with the core idea of designing them without superfluous details that make them complicated. In addition, they should be as small as possible, so they can be transported in a space-saving way. In Europe, individual models of the carrying aid can be ordered, for example, from the Polish store carrylove.pl.

The new price of the tested carrier is 98€, Karaush's website shows here directly the price converted into euros. This makes it one of the rather low-priced carriers. The Ergo Baby Carrier from Karaush belongs to the full-buckle carriers. These are completely buckleable. Here, however, a special feature stands out. There is no connecting buckle and the straps are crossed by default in this carrier. According to the manufacturer, this carrying aid is usable from the 4 months. I can only agree to a limited extent. But more about that later.

The abdominal belt is relatively firm and conical shape, ie it is wider in the middle than on the sides. This is to take off more weight. At the back of the baby's knees, the fabric is lightly padded. Unfortunately, the width of the bar is not adjustable. Thus, the carrier fits only at a certain size, approximately at size 68, and must otherwise be adjusted, so that the fabric sits in the back of the baby's knees. This is important to allow an optimal Anhock-Spreiz posture.

The straps are attached to the back part with two darts, which should allow them to adapt well to the shoulder shape of the wearer. At the same time, they are relatively wide, but not padded. They end at a webbing strap with a buckle. They are attached to the side of the back part of the Karaush Ergo Baby Carrier after crossing over. The attachment is not all the way to the side, so the buckle is on the back section. This is not optimal for smaller children, because it puts increased pressure on the back. This restricts the natural rounding of the child's back.

The head support of the carrier is slightly gathered by an elastic band. There are loops at the ends, allowing the head support to be attached either to the straps or as a bolster, to the upper part of the back.

When wearing

Since my son is too big for this carrier, I tested it exclusively with demo dolls from my babywearing consultations. Here I had to reduce the bar width for the smaller dolls, because otherwise they would be overspread at the hips.

The straps are very comfortable for me on the shoulders. However, tightening the straps was more difficult because I had to pull backwards to do it. Therefore, the second time I put it on, I adjusted the straps beforehand so I only had to click them in. I found the attachment to the back part uncomfortable because I could still feel the pressure on my stomach when the straps were really tight. Alternatively, you could loosen the straps a bit, but that would no longer provide adequate support for the baby. It would be better if the straps were attached to the belly strap of the carrier.

Likewise, I have tested for you carrying on the back with the Ergo Baby Carrier from Karaush. However, this requires a lot of practice and is not recommended for inexperienced parents. This is especially true for children who move around a lot in the carrier. I was also bothered by the high cross of the straps on my neck. Without crossing the straps, however, they slipped off my shoulders, so that's not an option either.

Size-wise, the Ergo Baby Carrier was suitable for my larger doll, which is about size 62/68, from the bar width. For larger children, this would then no longer be sufficient. In addition, the back part is relatively short, which is why it is the stretcher also here to its limits.

Washing

I did not wash the carrier because it was a test carrier. Since the sling used in the carrier is 20% silk and 20% wool, I would wash it only by hand and appropriate wool detergent.

Conclusion

Karaush's Ergo Baby Carrier could not convince me in the end, unfortunately. Positive to note are first of all the pleasant carrier guidance when worn in front of the belly, as well as the low price. Points of criticism here are mainly the lack of bar width adjustment, as well as the strap attachment to the back of the carrier. The latter, however, fall for me higher into the weight.

The Russian manufacturer Karaush also produces slings in addition to the Ergo Carrier. I have tested one of them. You can read about my experiences in this article.
